Whitney wellness center: BEGIN YOUR HEALING JOURNEY

Family Therapy

In a family setting, IFS helps each member understand their own internal world and the roles they play in the family dynamic. By fostering self-awareness and compassion, this therapy reduces blame, reactivity, and emotional distance. Families begin to see each other not as problems to fix, but as individuals with feelings, needs, and parts of themselves that want to be understood.

As communication improves through IFS, conversations become more thoughtful, respectful, and grounded. Instead of reacting from a place of frustration or fear, family members learn to speak from a calm and centered place—what IFS calls the “Self.” This shift promotes deeper listening and more meaningful dialogue. Conflicts are de-escalated with empathy, and long-standing patterns of avoidance or emotional shutdown begin to soften. Family members start responding to each other with curiosity instead of criticism, which can be transformative in rebuilding trust and connection.

With ongoing IFS work, the overall emotional tone of the household often becomes calmer and more nurturing. Children and parents alike feel safer expressing themselves, and the quality of relationships naturally strengthens. Stress levels decrease as family members stop taking on roles that don’t belong to them, and instead, begin supporting each other in healthier, more balanced ways. The result is a stronger, more resilient family unit built on compassion, understanding, and emotional safety.

Healing Together, Growing Stronger

Family therapy offers a path to healing by helping families navigate challenges, improve communication, and strengthen their emotional bonds. Whether you’re facing conflict, stress, or the effects of trauma, working with a skilled therapist creates a safe space for each member to be heard and understood. Through guided conversations and practical tools, families learn to support one another more effectively, reduce tension, and create lasting change. Many find relief not only in resolving immediate issues but in building healthier, more connected relationships for the future.

Family therapy helps improve communication, resolve conflict, and strengthen connection. Using IFS and Parts and Memory Therapy and Gottman’s model, we explore how each member’s internal parts affect family dynamics and how healing individual wounds can bring more harmony to the whole.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of therapy that helps people understand the different “parts” of themselves—like the side that gets angry, the part that feels hurt, or the one that tries to keep things under control. These parts often form in response to past experiences, especially from childhood. IFS teaches you how to connect with your calm, confident inner self so you can listen to and heal these parts, rather than fight them. This approach helps people feel more balanced, less overwhelmed, and more in control of their emotions and actions.

IFS sees each person as having different “parts” (like anger, fear, or protectiveness). In therapy, we help family members understand their own parts and respond with compassion, rather than react from pain or past roles.

In IFS and P&MT, we avoid blame. We look at how everyone’s parts interact and what each person needs to feel seen, heard, and safe. Healing is a shared process.

Most therapy sessions last between 45 to 60 minutes, with extended time available for hypnotherapy sessions upon request or as needed.
